The Blind Horseman

The Blind Horseman – This piece was started years ago. I finished making a mold for the piece and making a Hydrocal cast. I carried the Hydrocal cast around for years.

Out of the blue I won a $5000 gift from the NADC Artist Advancement Award. The National Arts and Disability Center is a program of the Tarjan Center at UCLA. The award is given in recognition of artists who provide heightened visibility to the accomplishments of artists with disabilities. I won the award for my photography. They had no idea that I could also do sculpture.

They let me do whatever I wanted with the money. I had never had the money to do bronze casting before. So I worked on this piece to finish it up under the heading The Blind Horseman. I directed the owner of the founders to finish it to my specs. I added a braille signature to indicate I am totally blind.
